background story

The BMP started, more or less, when a Scooby Doo Baseball tin of blue Barrel of Monkeys monkeys was found and purchased at the Good Will. The original intent can somewhat be seen in the pic of this post. Generally they were meant to be arranged in a way that complimented there shape by repetition. Some sort of cross between fractal geometry and a Cecil B. DeMille dance production.
Obviously the early prototype shots included the grey gummi erasure that does little for the photo as a whole.

Why retool into the project? I have had discussions about some sort of group or community art project. Something that would incorporate many visions but unified by a theme. Several times the idea in general and specific was bandied around, often with the same end result of posting on the internet. I am blanking on what some of the ideas and concepts were but I remember them being themed photo projects. It could be argued that the BMP is not the apex of execution for this idea. Nonetheless it is whimsical and accessible. I do feel the color and nature of the little plastic monkey lends itself to a compositional element that can be exploited or not as the photographer seems fit. If nothing else this could be an trial run of an idea.

I am still waiting on some responses to monkeys sent out. On my end I need to figure out who to send monkeys to. I am down to a handful but there is still plenty to go around.
cheers

This is perhaps an overly obvious blue monkey composition. Blue with contrary orange. I cannot say why there seems to be a fruit & Monkey theme so far. I hope this theme gets undone soon.
I sent out the first two monkeys today. I cannot imagine what the turn around for posting will be. Its quite possible that the monkeys are still sitting in the (blue) post office box. Tomorrow more shall go out. If for some reason you are reading this and want to play along I'll happily hook you up.
I've been trying to encourage text with submissions. With that in mind I offer a bad monkey poem
Oh red monkey blue monkey
mad monkey sad monkey
with your range so like a man and a...
orange you glad I didn't say banana?
